The Kit Buildings Carport Canopy — Serious Coverage, Simple Installation

Not every covered space solution needs to be a major construction project. The Kit Buildings Carport Canopy is a hot-dip galvanised steel structure with a ribbed steel roof, open sides, and a footprint that goes where it's needed — bolted to a concrete pad, operational in a day, and built to handle the demands of daily commercial use without fuss.

At 16.4ft wide, 20ft deep, and 12ft at the apex, it's a structure that does a significant job in a compact, practical package.

Open Sides — The Feature That Makes It Work

The open-sided design is what makes the Carport Canopy so versatile across different applications. Vehicles approach from any direction, reverse into position, and leave without navigating through gates, doors, or restricted openings. There are no mechanisms to operate, no door systems to maintain, and no bottlenecks slowing down the flow of vehicles or people moving through the covered area.

The 12ft apex height provides generous clearance over standard commercial vehicles — enough headroom for staff to work comfortably at tailgate level and for goods to be moved in and out without restriction. The 16.4ft width gives working space on both sides of a standard delivery vehicle, with room for pallet trucks and hand trolleys to operate freely.

For warehouse and distribution operations, that combination of height, width, and open access means vehicles can be turned around faster, staff can work at a consistent pace, and goods move from vehicle to building without exposure to the elements at any point in the transfer.

A Ribbed Steel Roof Built for Industrial Environments

The 0.7mm ribbed steel roof panels handle the kind of daily punishment that fabric alternatives don't. Scraping from pallets, impacts from packaging, vehicle exhaust, moisture and general industrial activity — the steel roof takes all of it without compromising its integrity. Two years of continuous daily use in a demanding distribution environment and the roof remains in excellent condition throughout.

Integrated guttering channels rainwater away from the covered area efficiently, keeping the ground dry underfoot and eliminating the slip hazard that standing water creates in a busy unloading environment. In summer, the overhead cover reduces the temperature beneath the canopy by as much as 10–15 degrees compared to direct sun exposure — a meaningful difference for staff doing physically demanding work through the warmest months.

Up in a Weekend. Operational by Monday.

The Carport Canopy arrives as a complete kit with comprehensive instructions. A small team assembled the frame and installed the roof panels in approximately eight hours — across one weekend, with no disruption to weekday operations. A concrete pad with anchor bolt positions is all the foundation required, and LED lighting can be added to the frame straightforwardly given the open-sided design.

Total investment including groundwork: approximately £3,050. That covers a structure that has eliminated weather-related stock damage, improved staff working conditions, and allowed unloading operations to run at a consistent pace regardless of the weather outside.

Where the Carport Canopy Fits

The 16.4 ft x 20 ft footprint suits single-bay operations where covered space is needed without consuming significant yard area. For distribution and warehousing businesses, it creates a protected unloading zone that keeps goods, staff, and operations running smoothly. For other applications — covered vehicle parking, a protected working area, or any situation where open-sided weather cover is needed quickly and affordably — the same structure delivers the same reliable performance.
